Now is the time to start your own daycare. Many experts expect the demand of daycare to increase as more mothers with young children are forced to find jobs outside the home. Part of this is due to the economy, and sadly, to the high divorce rate, which means mothers who may have stayed at home and cared for their children must now seek a job to pay their bills.

I have been in the Daycare Business for over 12 years now. I have slowly seen the increase of child care rising. Most daycares in my area are full with a waiting list. Most home daycares now do not take infants. Infant care is almost impossible to find. Parents needing evening or week end care will have a hard time locating that type of child care. Daycare providers offering infant care, night time care or weekend care can charge more for this type of care since it is pretty much non existent from most home daycare providers.

I started out watching two children while I was in the process of getting licensed. You will need to decide if you want to be a licensed where you can watch up to 6 to 12 children. Or, if you want to just watch two children not including your own children with no license at all. You need to first check with your local licensing agency to see how many children you can watch without a license. This number is usually two. But all states are different. Most parents feel more comfortable going with someone who is licensed than with someone who isn't. Getting a license can be a long and stressful procedure. This way you can bring in some income while getting your house set up and ready. As people notice you watching children the word will slowly spread that you are now doing daycare and word of mouth is your best way to attract more customers. Do you have children of your own? If you do you should be able to start out using some of their toys and books. If you do not have any toys or books that you can use you should start now checking out 2nd time around stores for toys and garage sales. You will also want to keep an eye open for play pens, high chairs, and outside play equipment. When you start making a good income, then you may want to buy some newer equipment and toys.

Before you start your daycare you will need to have forms for the parent's to sign, forms for taking the children on field trips, in your car for errands, medical emergency forms, plus others. You will need a handbook going over all your policies and procedures. I have a well written parent's hand book you can use or edit to fit the needs of your daycare. You will need to figure out how much to charge for the children you will be watching. Are you are going to watch children only during daytime hours, maybe nights or weekends, what about sick children? My guide will help you decide which hours are best for you and your daycare.

Once you get licensed you will need to start attracting customers! My guide will help you advertise your daycare with lots of valuable information on advertising and marketing your daycare. Getting along with the parents can be one your biggest problems. I have learned that many problems can and will arise between the provider and the parent(s). If parents realize ahead of time what your rules and procedures are then you can stop some conflicts before they start. Once they read through your handbook they will have a greater understanding of your philosophies and what your rules are. My handbook goes over everything from being early or late. If I open at 7 am I do not want children showing up at 630 am. My handbook covers other issues such as a sick child, holidays, toilet training, bounced checks, late payment, and so much more. Keeping your records straight can be a nightmare. I have learned some simple tips to keep my records easily organized and I will show you how to easily organize your daycare records. You need good bookkeeping forms to help you organize your daycare records. I have some really nice bookkeeping forms to keep you organized. You do not have to be a bookkeeper to keep accurate records and to be organized. I will show you how to achieve this.

You also need to organize your daycare records for each of the children. If a child gets hurt you don't want to be looking for the children's records or phone numbers when an emergency comes up. You want to know where everything is at all times. You can print out my emergency phone numbers forms and list all the children and their phone numbers on this form and post it near the phone.

When the licensor comes to your house you want to be able to produce the children's records and have them all up to date. You do not want to be running all over the house looking for them. Your states licensor can pop in at least once a year and you won't know when their coming. My guide will give you tips on keeping how to keep the children's records all up to date and how to store them so you can easily find them.

What about disclipine? Children are going to act up during the day or they wouldn't be normal. You need to make sure the children are not going to hurt themselves or someone else. But you do not want to yell or over react to the children. You need to teach them through positive reinforcement. Guide them with positive actions. My daycare guide will go over positive discipline to help you learn how to approch the children when they are standing on chairs, throwing sand, running inside, hitting, etc.

My daycare business has changed along the years. I now watch 12 children and hire a staff to help me with the children. I do a morning toddler/preschool program. I have centers set up throughout my house. Learning Centers can be a small area of your house or a small box or shelf where you place certain items for a specific area of learning, Such as, where you place your books would be your book center. A center can be a large area or just simply a few books on a shelf or a dish pan with set up with some art items in it would be your art area or art center. Some people set up shelves and designate certain areas on the shelves for certain learning areas. Such as a math area for learning how to count, sort and other math activities or pre reading area where you would place some alphabet cards or a sound box or other pre reading activities. "Quality daycare's" have learning centers or area's set up for the children. These centers don't have to be anything big just a small area where you will keep some books, and another area where you will keep some blocks. If you notice most of the time that the children crawl up on the couch to look at books then place a few books in a small stand by the couch and this will become your book center. Most daycares have a block center, art center, music center, book center, dramatic play center, and a few others which are discussed in my e-book.
